Baby Che'

Deona and Joey are the proud new parents of Che', 12 days old at this photo shoot.  I take newborn photos at the family's home.  (Generally, it is best to get the portraits done in the first week.)  There is no time frame for a session - this one took almost 4 hours!  I am very patient and happy for parents to do whatever they are comfortable with to make the new baby happy.

Che' is sleeping peacefully.

Here he is in his papa's hands.

This blanket that Che' is sleeping on is a favorite of his parents.  They got it on a trip to The Dominican Republic.  I like to incorporate these special family belongings into my portrait sessions.

His hands will never be this tiny again!

Here is the new family of three.

Aiden & Rowen

While I was in Oregon visiting my sister and her family I got the chance to photograph Matty with her kids Aiden and Rowen.  The boys were not sure they wanted to have their photos taken.  To make them comfortable I got down on the floor and played with them.  I let them make silly faces for the camera, and had them show me their most prized toys.  It didn't take long for them to willingly give me a smile.  I love photographing children, and prefer to take lifestyle portraits that represent the child's everyday life.

My trip to Oregon

I just got back from a great vacation.  My birthday was January 31st, and to celebrate I flew out to see my sister and her family for 10 days!   I took a ton of photos while I was there, of course. This is my adorable nephew, Sylvan.   The photos I take of him are what I like to call lifestyle portraits or casual portraits.   They are natural and comfortable.

Here he is with Papa Ryan playing the Mbira, an African Instrument. Look at those hands go!

Sylvan is "a boy's boy." He loves to wear his overalls and use his toolbox.

Sylvan is quite curious about my camera. He was told he could look, but not touch - so he's looking!

We gave him a huge spoon with peanut butter. He couldn't quite figure out how to get all the peanut butter off, but he sure enjoyed it.

Sylvan is lucky enough to have Jessica take care of him a few days a week while his momma and papa are at work. Here he is giving her a kiss. Jessica brings her baby Azure with her every day as well.

Jessica set up a tent for Sylvan, and he's inspecting its doorway.

I don't know exactly why, but I just love this photo. Something about the colors and the contrast of Sylvan in his pjs on such a nice chair. He was so tired.

A few photos of me

I spent 4 days in Tampa at the Digital Wedding Forum convention, meeting other photographers and learning about the art and business of wedding photography.  I actually have a few photos of me, courtesy of Todd Nichols

Here I am!

This is me with my convention roommate Irit Tommasini.  She came all the way from Brazil to attend the convention!

Kim & Jim

Kim and Jim (Entropy's bassist) were married on December 29th at Callanwolde in Atlanta.

Kim gets the royal treatment as all of her bridesmaids help her into her gown.

Jim & Kim chose to see each other before the ceremony. This gave us a chance to get a few photos outside before the sun went down.

Jim was so lucky - the old bass player for Entropy flew in and stepped in for Jim so that he could have his own band play his wedding reception!

Kim and Jim wanted to take a "self portrait" so I handed over the fish eye lense.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve has always been a special time for my family.  Since I was maybe 2 years old, my family went to the home of next door neighbors, The Humphreys.  My parents moved to Asheville in 2003, but we still manage to spend Christmas Eve with The Humphreys.  I, of course, always have my camera.

This is Grayce Mae, my little girl.

(I'm actually in this photo)

For as long as we have been having Christmas Eve dinners together there have been a few traditions.  The first is Christmas Party Poppers that have a joke, a toy, and a colored paper hat in them.  We all wear the hats.  The second is the hanging of spoons on noses.  Here is grandmother Sarah showing off her skills.

After dinner we have another tradition.  It started as Dona reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to the children.  As we grew up and learned to read, the children joined in the reading. Over 25 years have passed, and we still each read a page.
